The Twelfth Southern African Senior Executives’ Seminar will be held at Spier Hotel & Conference Centre, Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The four star Spier Hotel was one of the first luxury hotels in South Africa to be awarded the Fair Trade in Tourism SA accreditation in 2004. This means that wherever possible, Spier looks for ways to support local industry and communities, and aims to minimise the impact of its activities on the environment. Achieving this while still offering guests a luxury experience is a distinction in which Spier takes great pride.

Accommodation and Facilities

• Participants will be accommodated at Spier Hotel & Conference Centre and all seminar activities will take place at the bomas on the south bank of the Eerste River. These are an expression of Spier’s philosophy and are made from wood generated from Spier’s invasive alien clearing programme as well as adobe bricks . A system of screens made from local reeds provides shelter.
• The hotel bedrooms all come with en suite facilities, private phones, air conditioning and a TV. The hotel has a wide range of facilities including a spa, travel desk, business centre, shuttle service, laundry and 24 hour room service. Broadband internet access is offered at affordable rates via wireless hotspots in the hotel’s public spaces and conference venues. The facilities support disabled guests.

Remaining in contact with your office

We want you to be able to give your full attention to the seminar so that you get the maximum benefit from it. However, we realise that your office may need to get hold of you and vice versa. Some e-mails are genuinely urgent. To that end we have arranged the following:

• There is a business centre in the hotel where you can go on-line and deal with mail;
• The hotel is a wireless hot-spot for laptop connection to the internet, although the bomas where we work are not;
• We give you free time around meals and morning and afternoon refreshment breaks, and there is a longer break before dinner. You may want to use these times specifically to be in touch with the office.

Dress Requirements

The dress code for the seminar is casual and comfortable. Stellenbosch can be warm in March and participants are encouraged to bring light clothes and swimming gear (if desired), as well as sun block. A jacket or sweater for evenings is also recommended. Please bring along sturdy shoes (high heels not recommended), since the bomas where the seminar sessions will be held are outside the conference building and we get there by means of a pleasant walk along a rough pathway.

Accompanying Spouses/Wider Participation

Unfortunately it is not possible to cater for accompanying spouses or other guests. The seminar is very intensive and numbers of participants restricted, thus only delegates and speakers may attend the sessions.

Attendance

Participants are expected to attend all sessions of the seminar and since the programme runs right through till dinner on the first three days we encourage you to remain on site for the duration.

Medical

Should any medical problems occur there is a medi-clinic nearby with a doctor available on 24 hour call. There is also basic medical treatment available at the hotel.

Coming to SPIER – Travel

You are responsible for your own travel to and from Spier Hotel & Conference Centre. Please note that flights to Cape Town are usually quite full, so we urge you to book timeously. Your accommodation has been booked as part of the seminar booking, from the afternoon of Sunday 11th March, to check-out on Wednesday 14th March. All meals are included in the cost of the seminar and are taken at Spier Hotel.

Directions to Spier Hotel & Conference Centre

From Cape Town International Airport:

• Take the N2 toward Somerset West (opposite direction of Cape Town)
• Take exit 33 which is the Baden Powell Drive/ R310Stellenbosch turn off
• Turn left in the direction of Stellenbosch
• Spier is 9 km down the road on the right

From Cape Town City Centre:

• Take the N2 towards Cape Town International Airport
• Continue past the Airport turnoff, this is approximately 10 km after the cooling towers
• Take exit 33 which is the Baden Powell Drive/ R310 Stellenbosch turn off
• Turn left in the direction of Stellenbosch
• Spier is 9 km down the road on the right

From Milnerton/ Belville/ Brackenfell Areas:

• Take N1 and exit 47
• Turn right at the stop sign and continue to Stellenbosch on the R44
• As you drive into Stellenbosch keep straight and you will get into Adam Tas road which has the railway line on its right.
• Go past Simonsberg Cheeses and Bergkelder
• Turn right at the sign for Cape Town and Kuils River – R310
• At sign for Muizenberg – R310 turn left
• If you go past Neethlingshof turn back – Spier is +- 5 km down the road on the left
